The Lingering Garden is one of the four most famous gardens in China. The garden was first built in the 21st year of the reign of Wanli (1593) by Xu Taishi as his private residence. The garden is seperated into the middle, eastern, northern and western parts. The ancestral temple and the house lie to the south of the garden.
Amongst other things the garden possesses 42 rooms and halls, a 670-meter-long roofed walkway, 200 lattice-windows of different kinds and 44 parallel couplets and stone carvings.
